 The poem "The Gift in Wartime" is by Vietnamese poet Tran Mong Tu. It shows the harsh reality of war. The title is ironic that  suggests that war gives painful "gifts". The poem is from the perspective of a widow who lost her husband in the US-Vietnam war. She talks about the pain and loneliness caused by the war. Through her words, we see that war brings sadness, death and loss instead of happiness.
