J.B.S. Haldane wrote about what he values in life using his own experiences. He was born in a peaceful time, he faced World War I during his youth. He believes that everyone should have a job with good pay and that workers should control industries. He values freedom of speech, especially as a socialist, and feels restricted by laws. Health is essential for him; everyone should have access to food, housing and healthcare. He also values friendships and believes in the importance of community. Haldane also enjoys adventures and thinks life's challenges are essential. He differentiates between wants and actual needs and feels peace and safety are lacking in the modern world, especially after the World Wars and the rise of dictators. Inspired by Socrates, he hopes to be brave and principled till the end.
